- The annual State Meeting will be held in Fairbanks, May 2-4. This meeting will be a joint meeting with the Alaska Wildlife Society. All members should have received notification via e-mail.
- Riverbend School Totem project. In case you have not been keeping up to date, the Juneau Chapter has taken on the project of assisting the Riverbend School to raise a totem. This includes all the efforts from tree location to raising the pole. Much work remains. Gene Miller is heading up the task and is in need of volunteers. Help is needed securing the pole, getting a carver, meeting with elders and design selection, securing funding, etc. There is a meeting with the school on Jan 23 to work on the details. Anticipated completion date is October-November to coincide with the Tongass National Forest Centennial celebrations.
- In conjunction with the Totem project, a Walk in the Woods effort was discussed. It was generally concluded we needed to get a “walk” organized. More details after the Jan 15 meeting.
- Science Fair. A motion was made, seconded and passed “Propose we sponsor awards at the science fair of $100 for first, $50 dollars for second places”. Technical criteria will be developed around the theme of active forest management.
- The Legislative Reception is Jan 15, Tuesday at Centennial Hall from 5:30 until 9:00 pm. Please attend.
- Arbor Day is coming up in May and fast approaching. More to follow, but we are thinking and talking about planting trees. Start getting in shape now.
- Next meeting, February 14, 2002, at the Prospector, 12 to 1:30 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
James Bartelme
Secretary/Treasurer.
